Adel paints for impact and a lasting impression. Always with a view to creating beautiful work that pleases viewers of all ages and tastes. Influenced by the Impressionists and Neo-impressionists, as well as the Canadian Group of Seven, Adel expresses his love of nature in a way that aims at serenity. He may use varying styles and techniques. He may use vivid or muted colors, simple or complex designs, soft or textured bold stokes, and experiments with different light patterns. Yet the paintings show honesty and are seldom away from reality. It does not allow for imagination to take over completely, not due to inability but to stay truthful and provide beauty and depth of feelings. Once Van Gogh argued with Gaugin why should he uses designs of his imagination when nature has provided superb designs, textures and colors.
The paintings are inspired by true scenes in Canada or abroad. The land or seascapes are often of soft but contrasting colors, where the strokes keep pushing the paint in different directions; without losing integrity of the painting. While close to representational, if a scene is abstracted, the result is appealing due to the use of colors and composition.
Obviously alive, the portraits provide distinctive moods of the sitter. Whether representational and close to the classical tradition, or colorful in a contemporary fashion, the liking is faithful and the soul of the sitter is almost revealed to the viewer.
Adel has been drawing with acclamation since childhood. He studied painting at the Ottawa School of Arts in the early eighties. Since then he has been exhibiting in Ottawa and Toronto, and his work is to be found in private collections. His studio in downtown Toronto is open to welcome art lovers and those interested in commissioning portraits or other art of value.
